5 Centimeters Per Second Trailer

watched this film/animation yesterday.

Told in three interconnected segments, we follow a young man named Takaki through his life as cruel winters, cold technology, and finally, adult obligations and responsibility converge to test the delicate petals of love. (imdb)

like it a lot (not that much the voice of the end song)… beautiful animation/drawings, full of feelings. characters i can relate to :) i recommend.

I always feel this pressure of being a strong and independent icon of womanhood, and without making it look my whole life is revolving around some guy. But loving someone, and being loved means so much to me. We always make fun of it and stuff. But isn’t everything we do in life a way to be loved a little more?

Celine (from the film “Before Sunrise”)

Celine: You know, I have this awful paranoid thought that feminism was mostly invented by men so that they could like, fool around a little more. You know, women, free your minds, free your bodies, sleep with me. We’re all happy and free as long as I can fuck as much as I want.

Jesse: I always think that I’m still this 13-year old boy that doesn’t really know how to be an adult, pretending to live my life, taking notes for when I’ll really have to do it.

Jesse: Everybody’s parents fucked them up. Rich kids parents gave them too much. Poor kids, not enough. You know, too much attention, not enough attention. They either left them or they stuck around and taught them the wrong things.

Celine: Did your parents divorce?
Jesse: Yeah. Finally. They should have done it a lot sooner, but they stuck together for a while for the “well-being of my sister and I”, thank you very much.

Mama Illegal - Why Poverty?

this is an excerpt from a documentary film called “Mama Illegal”… i was thinking i wrote about it before, but searched my tumblr a bit and haven’t found anything.

anyway,

the official website

it’s a film by Ed Moschitz (Austrian journalist, working for ORF)

the film is the result of 7 years of work…

They gave the smugglers all their money and risk their life on their journey across borders: Three women from a small town in Moldavia, living now in Austria and Italy as cleaning women. On top of their hard job they live a life in illegality without documents, far away from their children and family for years. A film about the price of the dream of a better life.

the screening (here and there) of the film started at the end of summer… hopefully it will reach as many venues as possible

p.s.: the soundtrack is by Zdob si Zdub.

“Your fragility is also your strength” - Pina Bausch & Career Karma

I read this quote here on tumblr (reblogged by a friend of mine). It is subtle… made me a bit curious, thus I went on to find out who is Pina Bausch (cause I didn’t know) and what is the context of this idea.

Philippina “Pina” Bausch (27 July 1940 – 30 June 2009) was a German performer of modern dance, choreographer, dance teacher and ballet director. With her unique style, a blend of movements, sounds and prominent stage sets, and with her elaborate cooperation with performers during the composition of a piece (a style now known as Tanztheater), she became a leading influence since the 1970s in the world of modern dance.

source: wiki

well, shame on me, that I didn’t know, cause I really like modern dance.

then found out about a film - PINA - A film for PINA BAUSCH by WIM WENDERS.

here is the trailer

I’ll definitely watch it! my kind of thing.

and further… this very interesting article, about Career Karma

will copy-paste most of it here…and highlight some stuff, but read it all :)

Pina was not just a dancer, but a multifaceted artist who worked from instinct rather than formality. When she formed her dance company she did all the choreography herself. But in later years, her work evolved. She started asking the dancers to interpret her ideas in their own ways. She supported their creativity and full expression by encouraging them to be open to what might happen. If she was not happy with the results, she would offer the instruction, “Search more.” In other words, go deeper, let go, embrace your emotions.

Pina’s work demonstrates a whole range of human emotions, including sorrow, joy, anger and fear. She told her dancers, “Your fragility is also your strength.”

So, too, in the development of your creative career, your vulnerability can be your biggest ally. Being open is essential. Without it, you will become brittle and crumble into pieces.

You may be familiar with the concept of serendipity. Serendipity means a happy accident or pleasant surprise, specifically, the accident of finding something good or useful without looking for it.

Although career development does require thoughtful planning, chance events also play a big part in our careers. Being open to meeting new people, going new places and seeing with new eyes all help turn dreams into realities.

In the article “Planned Happenstance: Constructing Unexpected Career Opportunities” (Kathleen E. Mitchell, Al S. Levin, John D. Krumboltz, in Journal of Counseling & Development, Spring 1999, Volume 77), the authors state that making career serendipity work for you takes five personal characteristics:

>curiosity
>persistence
>flexibility
>optimism
>risk taking

Which of these characteristics are you most comfortable with? Which could you stretch into? Think of at least one action you can take each day to increase these characteristics in yourself.

Your career will evolve on its own unique path, fluctuating between multiple periods of stability and change. Be ready.

it is so much about me… now going through a change period :)
