coffee on the balcony
and the sun is out
today, in Iasi, Romania
that is the Palace of Culture
the white thing is called zephyr… a sweet thing popular in ex-soviet countries. on the Russian wiki it’s written that it dates back to ancient Greece…and therefore the God name. it’s mainly made out of egg white and sugar… and i read here and there that it also contains pureed apple (or other fruit) and pectin. they are not baked, just put in seashell-shaped “cups” and left to dry out. sometimes they are coated with chocolate.
and due to pectic, this thing is said to be healthy - link - health benefits of pectin
it might be somehow similar to Chocolate-coated marshmallow treats, I’ve tried the ones typical for Switzerland… indeed, somehow similar, but I prefer our version :)) The Swiss ones are more sticky…maybe less dried (?)
although the same ingredients, not similar to meringue - this one is baked and thus hard.
and not similar to the marshmallows that are popular in the US…those don’t have eggs.
p.s.: i just became a zephyr expert :))
another thing I like about Italy - the coffee culture. around every corner there is a cafe/bar where one can have a coffee. some of the coffee shops open as earlier as 6 am. and every morning you would have the fresh pastry. the price is more or less the same regardless of the location. 1 euro for a coffee.
and usually Italians drink the coffee at the bar, standing. but we asked if we can have a seat :)
p.s.: in this photo it’s 6:30 am, a cafe behind Duomo di Milano (Milan Cathedral)
coffee kept in a jar fro mthe same ‘collection’ :)
out for a chat&drink
place called Piadina-Bar… it’s good to have friends that have been here (in Zurich… or any other new town/city for me) for a longer time already. they can take me to places I don’t know yet…
the piadinas that they are making looked&smelled very tasty… will be back for a quick lunch there.
yesterday, together with a very best friend, I went out for a warm drink to a relatively newly opened cafe in Chisinau… I like the style, not that many alike places in Chisinau. and there are some seats where you can get this pretty view.
weird weather these days in Zurich… periods of sun, but dark clouds in the same time… then no sun and at 1 pm it looks like at 5-6 pm. light rain…then heavy rain with strong winds…
but today I decided that I don’t want to stay inside (at home or in the office), so got a latte macchiato and went for a walk, while there was light rain… when I was about to finish my drink, the storm started…. oh, well, plans changed, no more walks, went inside the main train station in Zurich… there is the biggest Christmas market from Zurich… not many interesting things here and mostly all overpriced. Luckily I got a phone call from a friend and we went to have dinner/pizza in an Italian restaurant… afterwards we ended up going through some shops, I got a jeans dress.
