again our dog, Geri
7 years and several months ago, Geri, together with her other 4 sisters and brothers came to our small holiday house that we have not far from the city (Chisinau). All of them were very young and cute… without a mother :( they were homeless (there are many homeless dogs (and cats) in Moldova :( ). We decided to let them live around our house… my brother was going there very often, to feed them. exactly 7 years ago, it was a snowy winter…. the dogs were already a bit grown up, it was difficult for my brother to go and feed them… we tried to look for a home for 4 of the dogs (my father brought them to the closest village… was going around asking people if they want a dog… hopefully their families kept them and treated them well). one dog, Geri, stayed with us… we took her to the city, but still kept her outside (we live in a flat at the edge of Chisinau and there is some land around… so Geri was just under our windows, with a dog house etc.)… six winters ago Geri disappeared… we had different versions - Geri escaped and it was hit by a car etc… and all of them ended sad, like Geri died. My brother didnt want to believe that Geri died…and after 10 days we hear a dog barking outside our window (we live on the 1st floor). It was Geri! totally skinny and with a damaged neck (it seems she tried hard to escape)… our version was that she was stolen, somebody thought that she would be a good watchdog at their garage, for example. We were very happy that she returned and decided to keep her in the house. 5 years ago she was in a bad car accident… and one of her legs was in plaster for more than one month. and over the years we understood that we really love her… and my brother says that she will beat a record and live more than 30 years :) i wish this too. indeed, having her at home is a very rewarding experience. and she loves all of us a lot. she is very smart…and I say this not because she is our dog etc… other people that got to know her say the same. She can pretty clearly let us know that she wants to go outside for a piss, or she wants to eat, or something hurts, or that she wants to go on the balcony cause its too hot in the house. I can tell her ”go to (name of my brother)” and she will go. and I think our family changed thanks to this dog…the dog is really a connection element, humans can learn a lot from dogs… especially how to be nice, thankful, loving to those around us.
and I generally recommend adopting dogs (or taking them from the streets)… they will never forget the good thing you did for them.
