some cool stuff on the apartment blocks in Berlin
a concert hall in Berlin

the newer part of Berlin
East Side Gallery, Berlin
again some copy paste from wikipedia: The East Side Gallery is an international memorial for freedom. It is a 1.3 km long section of the Berlin Wall located near the centre of Berlin on Mühlenstraße in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. The Gallery consists of 105 paintings by artists from all over the world, painted in 1990 on the east side of the Berlin Wall. The East Side Gallery was founded following the successful merger of the two German artists’ associations VBK and BBK. wiki
I got to this sight at the sunset (and there weren’t only clouds in the sky)…thus it was warner and the natural colours were nicer on the West side :)
to the right there is a river… and further down on this side, just near the wall, there is a beach terrace
and already at the end of the wall, there is a stop for boat trips, a floating hostel, and a small beach…and a bridge.
at some point, across the street from the Gallery, there is the O2 arena, recently built. As I understood, people living in the neighbourhood were not happy about it…
but of course most of the time I walked along the Gallery, taking pictures of some paintings…
and looking back
(previous posts about Berlin trip)
these are in the Potsdam’s Old Market Square (Alter Markt) which is the historical center of the town…
the monolithic building is to the left of St. Nicholas’ Church (when facing the church). and all the other buildings around are kind of older.
I found the text/info interesting… that the monolithic building will be demolished…
living in Chisinau, I wondered many times….who were the architects in the USSR? :)
p.s.: Constructivist architecture - these were the architects… and i must confess that from an “art for art’s sake” perspective, i like it, the buildings are cool, especially in black&white photos :) but living surrounded by constructivist buildings is not cool :)
one day of my Berlin trip I dedicated to Potsdam, which is around 40 min away from the center of Berlin (by suburban metro)…
one day proved to be not enough, cause there is a lot of sightseeing to be done… there are several big parks, with palaces and other monuments, where you would actually want to walk calmly and enjoy, sit a bit, relax, breathe deeply…but not hurry up as i did :))
and the above picture is the first one i took there :)
I visited Berlin at the beginning of June 2012.
On a rainy evening, I thought - let me have a ride on a double-decker bus, but not the sightseeing one… just a normal one, public. I got on at the first stop and got off at the last one.
All the time, there were only 4-5 people on the bus…me and the others were changing :) Of course I sat at the front of the 2nd storey… I took some videos, to have a different perspective of the city.
Now I finally decided to take a look at the videos…put them together and add some music and make them public.
Music: Gare du Nord - Berlin Beat
(beautiful song… maybe somehow suited my mood at that time)
p.s.: this is my 1000th post in this journal o_O
